Position: Digital Content Producer (News Group)

Overview:

We are looking for a forward-thinking writer and producer to join our established digital news operation. If you’re the kind of journalist who is always thinking about the web and social first, this is the position for you. We’ve made big strides with our digital platform in last few years and are looking to take our work to the next level.

The ideal candidate will have an established editorial/news background. They should be able to easily move across multiple platforms under hourly and daily deadlines. They will have experience juggling different news brands and finding ways to integrate common content between them.

The person in this role will also be expected to create original digital content for the group’s website and social media pages two-three times per week. One day that might be an extended photo gallery and the next it might be a short video for social media. This position requires experience in video capturing and editing.

Top candidates will understand the nuances of our work and importance of journalistic integrity and apply these principles to all the work they touch – like an article they write, gallery they create or video they edit.

They will be a true multi-media journalist, always thinking about our web and social media presence first. They will possess solid news judgment, find the most creative way to communicate a story, and be detail oriented.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing multiple websites and social media accounts
  • Move efficiently between writing and editing styles to meet the needs of a story
  • Assist in the creation of a daily email newsletter
  • Schedule, attend and execute video shoots as needed
  • Attend live events as needed and provide social media coverage
  • Pitch story ideas, and produce original content

Background & Requirements:

  • Strong news judgment and creative story-telling skills
  • 3+ years of experience in news, digital production or content creation
  • Degree in journalism or communications
  • Proficiency in AP Style
  • Solid understanding of emerging social media trends
  • Working knowledge of SEO
  • Ability to meet deadlines and function in a fast-paced news environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A creative eye for creating compelling and engaging content
  • Knowledge of the Catholic Church, teachings, and traditions
  • Being bilingual in Spanish/English is a plus
