The Opportunity

The Marketing department at DeSales pushes the envelope of what it means to engage Catholics in their faith. Part digital/creative agency, part brand marketing, and part software services provider, we cover a lot of ground. We manage the websites for 140 different schools, churches, and other Catholic institutions and brands. We run digital campaigns to increase donations for scholarships for education. We live broadcast key events on social to reach those unable to get out of the house. We get all the dioceses in the state together to use our interactive execution to spread the message of the true reason for Christmas. We think differently about what it means to be in the service of our diocese. We don’t dwell on the past: we look to the future. And we are excited for the challenge.

Who You Are

As the Wordpress Developer, you bring over five years of industry/agency experience designing websites on WordPress or other CMS. You are certainly an artist, but your true passion is for a strong and elegant design. You have user and customer empathy that you can project across the digital world. You fancy yourself a “Growth Hacker.” You’ve done case-studies. You’ve formulated countless insights from A/B testing user journey’s in both a think tank and autonomous environment. You create in fast iterations prioritizing functionality over aesthetics….initially. You’ve tested and launched many landing page, email, event, and social media campaigns. You have your own theories about the future of Web Design in the globalization economy, and desperately want to give a TED talk about it.

Your Responsibilities

  • Handle some front end development needs as well as optimize user experience of our media brands presence in the digital realm
  • Create, manage, and Integrate design and functionality to client and company run websites
  • Assume overlap programming and coding tasks from Lead Developer
  • Facilitate web develop with expert design systems
  • Be the customers eyes through a lens of design expertise
  • Constantly program/connect new, syndicated, and real-time data into 2D and 3D models
  • Keep aware of all projects across all brands in the company and think critically about the user experience
  • Design websites, web applications, mobile apps, and innovative technology in collaboration with our development team in line with the unique and identifiable DeSales Brand of design
  • Produce in-depth documentation of UI/UX concepts for projects and clients
  • Take raw concepts and ideas for audience viral strategy from the digital marketing lead and quickly translate them into reality with little oversight or supervision
  • Optimize workflow efficiency of all internal and external processes and create automation program scripts
  • Quickly execute assigned tasks and convert them into best practices and document them


  • 5+ years experience
  • Bachelors of Arts degree with a career path
  • Full cycle experience designing UX prototypes and UI through execution phase
  • Design and development for desktop and mobile
  • Proficient in: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, XML
  • Experience with various Mockup tools; Specifically FIGMA, but also Adobe XD, Gliffy, Balsamiq Mockups). Database modeling tools; PowerDesigner, SQL Workbench, Graphic tools ; Photoshop, Illustrator, GIMP
  • Experience hiring, managing and developing people
  • Demonstrated knowledge of key metrics for effective ROI analysis
  • Ability to work in a fast moving environment that is constantly changed by data availability
  • Layouts, look and feel, colors and fonts
  • Wireframes/prototypes/visual design
  • Data/information architecture
  • A/B Design Testing
  • Research usability, usage scenarios and mockup finding
  • Non technical skills (design, color psychology, typography)
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills to all audience types

DeSales Media Group is the non-profit communications and technology arm of the Diocese of Brooklyn. Services include media relations and strategy, marketing and social media, ad sales, educational support, video production, large events, and news content. DeSales Media Group operates NET TV, a cable television channel that reaches more than two million people in the New York area. Its news group produces a nightly television program and two award-winning newspapers (The Tablet and Nuestra Voz).
